How the meat, dairy and Big Pharma industry skews study results to scare people into staying unhealthy:
Several times people have posted to me that a veg diet for children will “stunt childrens' growth.” I have been aware of these completely misrepresented studies for some time but hadn’t gotten around to writing about it, so I am going to briefly address the utter falsehood of these claims. Sadly, the industries intent on keeping kids unhealthy and diseased always present study results in a light that scares the hell out of anyone not willing or capable of doing the research to counteract their lies and manipulation.
This claim stems from a few limited studies that seemed to show vegetarian or vegan children were shorter than their peers, leading to claims of “stunted growth”. The sickness industries will quickly hold this detail up in an ongoing attempt to keep our kids unhealthy – “What terrible parent would limit their children’s growth?!?!?” What they NEVER mention is that in ALL studies conducted these same children caught up with their peers around preschool age and this deviation DID NOT CONTINUE past 5 years old (e.g. there was actually NO difference in long-term height development).
There are several theories on why this might be. From many years of reading about learning nutrition and our food system, I believe children consuming anything that contains hormones and probably drugs (as we know, animal ‘proteins’ contain hormones and are often saturated with drugs including antibiotics) caused ABNORMAL growth spurts in very young children and the veg children actually appear to have developed MORE NORMALLY and consistently than their non-veg peers.
One detail that SHOULD be considered as important was the veg children had both healthier cholesterol levels and body fat – in essence veg children had a DECREASED risk of obesity and developing cardiovascular disease – our number one killers on a massive scale!
So, a word to the wise (and the unwise) – be VERY careful how you read and interpret studies, as there are almost always angles that can be exploited by the interests of the sickness industry into the perpetuation of making you and your child sick. Also pay close attention to who funded the study and what their desired results were, as that is how they will write the study to skew the perception of the findings, knowing most people will absorb only the headlines and will not read further into the matter to find the real truth.
